Update on life in Connecticut

It has been a great week even though I've been very busy and had my work schedule changed three times (how crazy is that!, every one is sick or just doesn't want to work). But it has been nice. The kids and I have our times. I have realized that I nag them too much and I need to be more encouraging rather than pushing them down (realized this today at about 10:30 right before finding the baby fish in my tank :) ). Tomorrow we are having our first States quiz, they are learning the states and capitals as well as where they are :). They have been studying hard I hear this week :).

I really am learning a lot here, and getting more confidence it seems and also finding some negative things about myself that I need to change, which is always good.

Well after 10 years I am going trick or treating again! I can't wait! Mary Grace and I are going to dress up as girls at a slumber party, we are going costume shopping tomorrow, it'll be SO fun. I will post pictures of it on my web site, and then figure out a way to put them here.

I was asked about the weather and leaves here. They are beautiful. I'll get some pictures tomorrow and again try to figure out how to put them here, if anything they will be on my web site, and I'm going to put a new link on there called Connecticut for pictures of just here :) It's not that much different here than Missouri for fall, a little cooler, and the color is greater but I think it's due to having more trees here than in Missouri. There are at least 5 times as many trees! Makes for some wonderful color.

Well I have gone on a lot today, hope someone is reading this :)

Oh, yes: I am reading everything!
The geography test sound to be nice: my sons and I always have fun trying to figure out where actually are the different States (in the USA) and which are the capitals, because usually people here tend to think the most famous cities are the capitals: not! As in the case of NY state and Albany vs. NY city....isn't it? If you can, please, mail me the quiz (with all the answers included). So that I can win my tournaments!
Now we have problems also with the European States and capitals. Afterthe end of the Communist Empire (URSS) we have so many new statea that I barely can locate.....
The Halloween thing must be nice: we don't have it here. Only some commercials and merchandise.

Keep us posted!

Hi Cecilia,

Glad to see you here :) You are correct about the captital of New York. We are only doing a few at a time, so I can send those to you :). The kids don't like these at all though! It requires them to *gasp* study :). All new to them though so baby steps. I do hope I can get them interested in geography as that's my speciality like geology. They have all asked to learn about rocks, so that's good, just have to get the rock sets.

Geography is great! I cannot realize how children usually don't like it....not only your three teenagers, but all of them.
Maybe they need more love for travelling and then they can realize how useful geography is !
What about some National Geographic video? I am such a BIG fan of videos on travels, expecially exotic places I have no opportunity to visit in my life!

I agree, it's great! I have no clue why kids don't like it, though I was odd and did enjoy it in school :) I think most kids don't think outside of the small world they live in (school, church, town........) so geography is just boring because it is relevant to them.

I also like the shows about places I'll never see. God created some really neat things, wish I could go and see them all. :)
